Malaysia: A Safe Destination for Tourists

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun has reaffirmed that Malaysia remains a safe destination for tourists. He highlighted the effectiveness of local authorities in addressing various threats and emphasized the police's ongoing collaboration with international security agencies to combat terrorism.

Security Measures in Place

Fuzi assured that police efforts are focused on preventive measures to thwart any potential terrorist attacks. He mentioned strong cooperation with foreign authorities, especially in information sharing, which enhances the monitoring of terrorist activities.

Specific Concerns in Sabah

While the Malaysian police maintain a robust security framework, it's important to note that the UK's Foreign and Commonwealth Office has issued travel advisories against visiting certain islands off the eastern coast of Sabah. This includes islands like Sipadan and Mabul, primarily due to concerns about potential threats.

Despite these advisories, Fuzi emphasized the strong ties between Malaysian and Indonesian security forces in efforts to prevent groups like the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) and Daesh (ISIS) from infiltrating Malaysia.

In summary, while there are specific areas where caution is advised, overall, Malaysia is committed to ensuring the safety of its visitors.
